Jan 28/04 2004 German Cup - hot ticket..

Fast becoming (if not already) the most popular event for Artistic Roller Sports that is open to all events/countries. More than sixteen countries compete each year, sending teams in events across the board from Cadet to Senior. Australians have contested this event from as far back as 1989 and in the past two years the teams have grown. Proving a very useful tool in preparing your year ahead, the German Cup is a great lead up event that can firmly plant you on the map. For registration and nomination forms - [Download here]
Note: This event is only for Figs/Freeskating (Inline events excluded)
Please note: An updated version of the forms has been loaded today (29/01/04) with an amendment to Page 7 - requirement including sit spin, as per advice from G.Cup organizers.

Jan 26/04 Romano sets ratings through the roof..

EIGHT MILLION VIEWERS tuned in on Saturday night to witness the World No.1, Tanja Romano, perform lived on the hit television show, RaiUno. In a rough translation of what has been written of the evening, they believe Romano's appearance on the show has truly revived the sport of Artistic skating that receives so little recognition. Show presenter, Enrico Montesano, commented that Romano's 'Bolero' exhibition prompted a huge response by telephone, the public calling it 'a beautiful experience'. Such enthusiasm can only be welcomed in these hard times as our sport faces its lowest numbers in years.  Romano added that the show went well and although the floor size was very small, the condition of the surface was great and it allowed her to perform well. She is also very proud that she has represented Italian Skating to a very important area, with a great response from not only the public but also the Director and Producers of the show. Congratulations Tanja, what an outstanding achievement...

Jan 22/04 New skate site... for kids!!
ally_jay.jpg (129426 bytes)A brand new site aimed at keeping kids involved in artistic roller sports has been set up by Macarthur Roller Sports club in NSW. Active member, Karen Mulvey, is one of the forces behind the effort and her daughter, pictured left - Ally, is also a young skater who is conducting monthly interview on her site.  I'm sure Ally would like to build up a small community amongst young skaters around the world, so feel free to visit and show support. Hopefully, many more skate sites like this will start to pop up and assist with the development of the sport. I'm very honored to be the first interview on the site.. I have just completed it with young Ally, and it was quite an interesting perspective from a kids point of view, the questions were great! To visit the new site, go here. To view the interview directly view here. Good luck with the site guys..
Jan 20/04 Tanja Romano - set to host TV program...

Romano will be in fact, host of the new program of Enrico Montesano 24 January commencing at 20.40hrs. Tanja's appearance is a great debut for artistic skating.. [Raiuno]
Jan 19/04 Inline approach from Italy...
INLINE SKATING DEVELOPMENT: Thanks to the encouraging shove generated by the international organizations, the FIHP is providing this year an economical and programmed commitment to develop INLINE FIGURE SKATING within bounds of the national territory. For that purpose the FIHP, assisted by the regional and provincial committees will be organizing shortly training camps in the selected Regions: North-East: Veneto, Central-North: Toscana, Central-South: Lazio

All skaters are welcome regardless of the type of inline skates. The FIHP will contact & invite members of the inline skating industry to participate at such events either to share their views and/or promote/sell their products in the presence of the athletes. The Technical Sector is studying the preparation of didactic material for Sipar courses, clearly stipulating specific perspectives and norms. Dates and future initiatives will be published shortly.

Jan 17/04 Lallai's artistic approach..
Luca Lallai will be remembered by all for his technical brilliance, perfection perhaps, but the former world champion finds himself working with the skaters and not against. Lallai, although we don't hear much of his travels, has recently been in Spain choreographing programs and teaching skaters there in preparation for 2004. The skaters who had the fortune of working with Lallai were extremely excited to have the opportunity and said that the his work was amazing. Recently we spoke of his travels this side of the continent, in Taipei. Perhaps a little 'train spotting' is required and if you happen to know of Luca working in your area or with 'you', let us know!!

Jan 11/04 Role reversal for Rolaboi..

The guys at CanAmCrew have been busy setting up their 'new look' site, which is a complete interactive experience and you'll find yourself looking around for hours enjoying the site, including their 'files'.. My folder has been added to the 'filing cabinet'. Recently I was approached by CanAm to do an interview, which was a nice reversal in roles for a change and for what I thought was going to be a short interview, turned out to be quite a lengthy one, which I think needs to be read without prejudice. They asked my thoughts on the state of roller sports in the US, the future for Inline, what changes I would like to see made in the sport, and a whole lot more.. Anyway, click on the logo to enter the main site or for a quick jump, click here for the filing cabinet where the interviews are stored.. Jan 06/04 New Zealand Nationals 2004

sj_ath8.jpg (29249 bytes)While the rest of the skating world relaxes and takes it easy over the New Year and Christmas, New Zealanders are hard at it contesting their National championships. Already the competition has been running for a few days and former Junior World No.3, Sarah Jane Jones, (left) is winning the Senior ladies short program, even though she will remain a Junior at world level and Anna Car-well Cook is in 2nd. Sarah competes in many events including figures, F/s, solo dance, inline creative and tomorrow she will compete in the Inline Free skating! How she does it? I don't know. For more news see, Skate NZ here.

Emilia has been drawn as the lucky winner of the t-shirt signed by
2003 World Champion - Luca D'Alisera

THANK YOU to the hundreds of people who entered the competition..

Dec 29/03 Awards & competition a huge success...
In deciding to add the 'rolaboi awards' to this site I wasn't really sure what kind of response it would receive, but it has actually been overwhelming. More than one thousand 'genuine' forms have been received and the hundreds of 'identical' multiple forms have been filtered out to ensure a fair result. From what I can see, it is going to be very interesting and many of the obvious winners aren't necessarily guaranteed the top position, as voted by YOU! The awards will now close and all results will be going online this week when a special announcement will be made. Which brings us to the close of another hugely successful competition to win a signed t-shirt by Luca D'Alisera, with more than 500 entries, its purely the 'luck of the draw'. Hundreds of multiple votes were also received and have been filtered out to ensure only one vote per person has been received. The lucky winner will be announced on January 1st. More news very soon..
Dec 26/03 The music's got me spinning around & around & around...
If you were lucky enough to be at the world meet in Argentina, then you will well and truly know what I am talking about here - the theme song! Yes, the one we heard on a daily basis and more than a few times! And to add to that, the music was (overall) so LOUD in the stadium. I recall people blocking their ears and complaining of headaches.. But for many, it seems the 'song' in question, people just can't get out of their heads and have been emailing, inquiring as to what it is.. A bit of research has been done and the track is by a band from Chile, 'La Ley' and the title is 'Mas Alla'. Many would have thought it was called 'Basta ja' as that was the chorus we know oh so well!! I'm in no position to comment on the lyrical content, the track is sung in Spanish, I'm purely giving you the name and artist.
Dec 21/03 Watch this site go from strength to strength - with your help!
In 2004 I'll be making an effort to get as much information on this site as possible.. but it's virtually impossible to source all the information first hand without the help of you.. So I have set up a submission area where you can simply submit any information you have, whether it maybe a link, world news, an interview or athlete suggestion... or anything else.. This could really make for a fantastic site overall.. View the new area [here
Dec 17/03 You want it - you got it - Luca Online!!

Dec 17/03 The man we've come to know as 'Hot Pants'....
Luca D'Alisera, notoriously known for his striking appearance and popularity with all the girls, along with the adopted name 'Hot Pants' (by all the girls!!)... aside from that, we all know him as an amazing athlete.. A skater who takes you on a journey when he performs, to another place that makes you think and for many, a short fall of breathing. Over the last two years, I have been swamped with requests for information on Luca and also an interview, but he's a hard man to track down.. But I've done it and all will be revealed very shortly.. including details on the web, ice, his calendar, his training and much much more, including some amazing NEW images... Stay tuned... D'Alisera - The Interview, the long awaited interview is coming soon.... (now online)
Dec 16/03 Peter Pan on wheels... Freiburg show the toast of the town
13decfreib06.jpg (5340 bytes)13decfreib03a.jpg (33100 bytes)'Outstanding' is one word to describe the spectacular interpretation of the fairytale story of Peter Pan produced by hit show maker, Michael O'Brecht. Former world champion, O'Brecht, regularly hold shows at his Freiburg venue (where German Cup is held) that receive RAVE reviews and are attended by thousands, many who take corporate booking also, so we are talking top quality performances here. And for Peter Pan, the cast was no exception this year, starring Patrick Venerucci as 'Hook', Beatrice Palazzi Rossi as 'Wendy', Daniel Mueller as a 'Pirate' and Frank Albiez and 'Peter Pan'. In looking at the images below, courtesy of Raniero Corbelletti, you'll get an idea of the extravagance and professionalism that went in to the show. Director, O'Brecht has been doing shows like this for more than a decade and Freiburg is renown for its quality entertainment on wheels...

Dec 14/03 Show skate wheels in the kids..
Victorian Club, Peninsula, held the first night of its run of three shows this evening to a very receptive and enthusiastic crowd. More than 80 skaters participated, many of them performing for the first time. Credit to show organizers and Melbourne coaches, Simon Reeves and Rachael Young (both former champions & Australian representatives at world level). Both Reeves and Young proved they still had what it took to put on a show of their own with some great numbers together as well as putting together the entire show for the huge cast. I was invited to perform also, (giving extra time for Rach to get changed in between numbers!) and an impromptu 2nd number was requested at the last minute when another guest act did a 'no show' of their own.. In all, it was a great first night and I must add, clubs like this one, continue to generate huge numbers in to our sport, ensuring its survival in Victoria and Australia - respect.
