2007 - Winner of the Pan American Games..
Marcel's rise to the top has been a story of success over the four year period since the last interview on this site. He has since retained his Pan American Games title (in Rio 2007), has risen to fame in Brazil with spots on major TV shows and many other celebrity guest appearances including runway work with one of his sponsors 'Datelli', in all they have made him a household name in his home country. Marcel also makes regular trips to local hospitals and visits with children who suffer from life threatening illnesses and spends precious time with them, something very important to him Sturmer admitted.
Ranking 5th at the world championships in 2005 and 2006, Marcel was determined to improve on that and in 2007 he put the pressure on and jumped up into the number four spot, right on the tail of the Top 3 who now know Sturmer means business. This guy is definitely pushing the buttons in Brazil and putting roller-skating on the map.

What do you like to do outside of skating:
I'm a very "family person" I just love my family and like to do stuff with them, like going out for movies, dinner or a simple chat at home can put a big smile on my face. I enjoy so much going to movies, and watching concerts, I cant live without music, that's my second passion I guess, and I like to see what I hear, so I like the mix of music and dance, video clips, etc... And doing anything with my friends, they are the most precious thing on Earth to me. When I'm in Brazil, my favorite time of the year is the Carnival, its so beautiful, and when I'm in the US I like to go out to do stuff with my coach Gracie, we are so the same.

How did you become involved in modeling? And was it because you are popular as an athlete?
I started for fun, Clarence Martinez ( photographer) took pictures of me for fun in the USA and then I got an agency and started working for them. Here in Brazil, I do more works for being the Pan-American Champion than a great model, in Brazil the country stops to watch their athletes go to this competition, its as important as the Olympic Games here, so I got a little fame and worked on it!  And I have so much fun taking the pictures, I really like it! I have to have fun doing things, that's when I do it best.

What is your highlight to date?
Sure its my Gold Medal from the Pan-American Games. That is something Ill never forget, I will take that for my life, wherever life takes me when I quit skating ( I don't even think about that for now, like 7 more years maybe )

Your favorite championships?
I like Worlds a lot, because everybody tries to be their best by that time, and its the last championship of the year (In South American, school vacations is January and February), I have all my competitions on tape so after each year I go watch it and see how much I improved as a skater, and see what I wanna do for the next year!

What inspires you?
The simple things, the people, the music, the dance, my family, my friends, I'm a happy person doing what I do, that's what inspire me, I'm happy doing this, so doesn't matter what I have to go through Ill make it and keep doing what I always dreamed to do. Skate in the South American Countries is not as easy as skate in the USA and Europe, we don't have any facilities, its a fight everyday to get a place to practice, to get equipment and everything, you have to be really persistent. I'm lucky that God put someone like Gracie in my life.

What would be your ultimate day?
I wake up and go to do physiotherapy (that's now), then I practice in the afternoon for 2 hours, do my routines and then go to the gym to work out for one and a half hour. That's the practice part of my life, then I have my social life, which is important too. Hahahahaha

Personal message from Marcel: "You can do anything you want to do if you go for it, and accept that you need people around you to help you out! One is never better than two, and don't let anyone say what you can and what you cant do, listen to your soul and you will find all the answers you need! Thanks Jayson for the interview, its such a pleasure to me be in your site, I'm really happy you invited me. I hope I showed people who I really am, and thanks to the ones who always believed on me and thanks to the ones who didn't, you made me so much stronger, and stop doing that!!!
AND SMILE ALWAYS, WE JUST LIVE ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Thanks to Marcel
