Sep 15/03 Mazzoni makes his mark & Albiez strikes 10
Luca D'Alisera cheersThe 2003 European Championships, Gold medallist, as pictured below, produced some exceptional performances that will leave other countries having to wait until the World meet before we get to see them once again, LIVE IN ACTION... Mauro Mazzoni, impressively stamping his return with a gold medal performance, though it was Frank Albiez, Germany, who held the audience captivated for the entirety of his performance, earning him a perfect score of 10.0 with his 'Bond' inspired program, choreographed by Sandro GuerraRoberto Riva, skater of the year `02, again proved nothing can stop him with a triple gold takings, not too mention his combination in the warm up that left everyone speechless - 3loop-loop-3loop-loop-3loop!!!
And the HOT couple, Andrea Barbieri & Irene Nardo, blew the competition away with their pairs win.  As speculation continues as to the non appearance of Luca D'Alisera, we can confirm he is fighting fit and on track to take on the world, looking in fine form (left) cheering on fellow team mates as they compete in Trieste..

Sep 14/03 2003 European's a huge success...
The 2003 European Championships are now over and word from Sandro Guerra, was that the competition was great. The official site for the event proved to be up to date daily even with the web cam working! The photo gallery is fantastic, check that out. In looking at the score totals, it appears the events were very tight, with the exception of Roberto Riva, who was miles in front, and obviously in spectacular from. We are still awaiting the final results from the Senior long programs, but I'm sure that will go up today... [See more from Trieste 2003]
Sep 13/03 Busted... literally!!!!
busted.jpg (29861 bytes)Timing and luck would have it... and what timing it is with only 2weeks until our Nationals championships when I go and BREAK MY WRIST!!! NOT HAPPY INDEED!!  Well, 'them's the breaks' as they say... and I guess I'll have to get used to this one finger typing, and I am left handed too so it's even more annoying! This happened last night at training and I knew straight away it meant I'd most likely end up in a cast, thankfully I requested a fiberglass one and that means I'll be back at training in no time, I hope.... Oh well... J
Sep 06/03 Eric counts down the days.... to Stardom!!!
Pictured left, Eric Traonouez, of France in his final moments on the hit show, POPSTARS, as his fate is decided by the judges... and the good news is, ERIC has made the cut of 13 for the final show down to be televised across France in November. Already Eric is enjoying the fame of his success to date in the show, unable to walk down any street without being recognized by avid followers of the show. The only thing is, this means Eric will not be competing at the world meet in Argentina for Inline, (umm, hello - what a decision to make) which is a damn shame because I've just seen some videos of him doing wicked triple salchows and double axels.. Never mind, Eric - we support your decision mate.. Good luck, Go for it - and I'll be spreading the word for online voting when it comes to the crunch time! This is great news...
Check out the French Popstars site here.. or visit Eric's site here..
Sep 05/03 2003 European championships - Italia..
The 2003 European Championships, held in Trieste - Italy, will take place from September 8-13. Many of the big names in European skating will participate in this event as most of the Federations use the results to ratify their National teams to compete that the World meets.
A web-cam is also in place on the Official site for the championships, another positive step forward for our sport as we see more and more Internet sites appearing for each, and many local, events staged on the roller sports circuit to keep the loyalist up to date.. [Trieste 2003]
Sep 05/03 Live web cam direct from the European championships..
Yes, one could have only hoped that it wouldn't be long before the age of the Internet and mobile phone technology became a part of our sports endeavors to bring you up to the minute news and images.. Well, it is upon us - British skater, Neil Emms, (top 10 Firenze 2001) has a web cam page set up on his very own brilliant website that will feature shots live from the European championships in Trieste, Italy. The images will start to appear on the site from Sept 09. Check it out, its just the beginning... [here]
Sep 03/03 Thought this site was a goner for a minute!!
Apologies for the site not being available over the past week, but believe me, it's been a scary week! The domain of this site expired on Aug 23 and it was impossible to renew for some reasons. So my worst fears were that it had been sold from under me and that it would re surface as some horror porn site or something.. So for a few days there I was really sweating it out.. Now, we are back and safe for another year.. Lesson is.. when renewing your domain - pay up for at least five years and you'll be safe!!

Sep 03/03 Australian Art Nationals Venue and program..
Only less than four weeks until the Aust. National Art Championships. The program is available at the Skate Australia site and also at DjNige.com  At Nigel's site there is a load of images of the venue, and while it looks like a bit of a dump at the moment, you'll see after a bit of work, they'll do it up quite fine and it will make for a great venue with a good atmosphere as there will be smaller amount of seating!!
Aug 17/03 Put yourself to the test...
If you think you have what it takes to take the real test, then the Spanish Federation is putting you up to it. On their site there is a series of tests, all 'skating' trivial pursuit so to speak. Although the test is in Spanish its not too hard to make out the correct answers. All questions are T/F.. Give it a go here... To the test  Note: Verdadero = True,  Enviar = Enter
Aug 25/03 Top Dance team call it a day..
Recently I wrote of the sadness many will endure this year at the announcement the retirement of athletes who will not be present at the 2003 World meet, including Patrick & Beatrice and Luca Lallai, all current champions. To add to this, former Champions and current World Dance No.3, Soledad Martinez Duran & Pedro Moreno Vazquez, of Spain, will also be included in that list. It is hoped that the pair will return again at some later stage after a break from the sport.. Below are a few images to pay tribute..

Aug 17/03 Skaterboi goes POP!!
Earlier in the year I wrote about Eric Traonouez and his involvement in the French TV show, Star Academy... Well, its all lights-cameras-action yet again with the all new POPSTARS hitting the screens and guess who's made it down to the final 20.. yes ERIC!! While at this moment Eric is training Inline, he'll be out there strutting his stuff, singing & dancing, over the next weeks in an effort to break the Top 5 and then go on to WIN the show and become a massive star throughout France.. Good luck Eric.. We are all out there voting for you!! Good Luck!!  Visit Erics site here
Aug 17/03 Skater left to wonder...

Portuguese skater Bruno Novais, of the Ginásio Clube de Odivelas club, has been left slightly bewildered post the 2003 National championships held in Seixal in which Bruno placed 2nd behind Manuel Magalhăes in the Senior men's event.. In selecting the team for the European championships, skaters competing in the Junior and Senior divisions were requested to again perform informally at a training session in Lisbon following the meet, where the selector would view the skaters and make the selection of the team.. A short time later, skaters were required to log on to the internet at the Federation site to learn there of the teams chosen. The skaters ranked 1, 3 & 4 were chosen for the Senior Men team, leaving one skater who had consistently ranked high in the event all season, rather baffled as to his position in the sport. Upon hearing of this story via other skaters in Portugal, I felt very compelled to write about it. I have known of Bruno and even interviewed him on this site last year. It's very common in Europe for this kind of selecting to occur, as to North and South Americas and Oceania, where it is strictly 1, 2 and 3 that make the cut. You can only encourage skaters who are or have been in this situation to go forward and be stronger in the year to come.. and kick some butt.. Good luck

Aug 16/03 Spanish Championships & Team...

Only weeks ago the Spanish Championships were held and there has been some heated discussion as to the requirements in place in which the figure skaters must attain a certain score before they will be included in the European or World meets. Apparently this has resulted in a vast drop in the number of skaters competing in the discipline and some very disappointed skaters. Is this a conspiracy to slowly drive out the figure component as with ice having done so over a decade ago now? Aside from that there were some outstanding performances, notably from Laura Sánchez (left) & Javier Cuesta in the Senior events, and Oscar Molins performing some magnificent triple jumps taking the gold medal in the junior boys event... For more news from Spain - visit the official site [here

Aug 15/03 Pan Ams: Brazil takes home the Gold..

marcel.jpg (13283 bytes)Brazil's dark horse, Marcel Sturmer - World Junior No.3 2002, has come from nowhere and blown away the competition at the Pan American Games in the Men's freeskating. Defeating World No.3 Daniel Arriola in 2nd position. Another comeback story for Colombia's Mauricio Jaramillo who held down a strong position in 3rd ahead of USA's David Jacques, 4th.  More news soon as we try and track down Marcel for an interview.. More info view USARS in full [herePicture left: Marcel in action in Santo Domingo at the Pan Am Games.

Aug 13/03 Pan American Games
The Pan American Games are almost complete and there have been some interesting results. Melissa Linsalata of Argentina held first position after the short program ahead of Heather Mulkey, only Mulkey [left] proving too strong in the long to take the event Gold and Mayra Ramos from Brazil in third. I haven't seen any results for the Mens long program yet, but I believe Daniel Ariolla was in third, the long program should be over at this stage and we'll have those results up soon.. For all info view USARS in full [here
Aug 07/03 Interview with the Inliner....
While Inline continues to take the back seat to Artistic Roller Sports, one person in Europe certainly believes it wont be long before Inline Figure Skating reaches the Olympic Games along with Inline Hockey and Speed. She may well just be right you know.. I've spent some time with Samantha Bennis from EIFSA Inline Figure Skating in Europe and I also had the pleasure of meeting her in Wuppertal in 2002. This is one hell of an interview and a great read.. I've also added pictures here of Inline skaters from all around the world who are hot in 2003... View in full [here] Enjoy.

Aug 01/03 ...Team USA announced..
01aug03josh.jpg (61452 bytes)Team USA has been announced and there have been some surprising results.. Im not sure if she is back from retirement or was on a break, but Jennifer Orcutt, has made one hell of a return by taking the Gold medal in the World Class Ladies freeskating. Both David Jacques and Josh Rhoads put on great performances taking out the two top spots with Henry Elliot in third. Adam White and Melissa Quinn have taken the gold in dance, which will prove interesting at the world meet, with current world champions - Bornati & Bornati having placed 3rd at the recent Italian Championships. Its a full team this year and the Inline team has been increased to two skaters per event as to one last year. See full report and results here.. [pictured - J.Rhoads]

July 31/03 2003 U.S Nationals - Junior Team
Recently USA Roller Sports upgraded their site and gave it a whole new look and a promise to provide more up to date news and that it is. This month, the US Nationals are on and the Junior Team for worlds has just been announced in full. The Senior events are now underway and should be announced by the end of the week at the close of the championships.. For more news and full story on the Junior results - see here..  [pictured - Kyle Turley & Kathy Kimura]
July 27/03 2003 Italian Championships...
ic03_andrea.jpg (47318 bytes)The Italian Championships are now over and sadly there had been no updates during the week as to the event.. But to be honest - I wasn't even sure they were on! However, in checking the results I was more than shocked to see Luca D'Alisera was NOT amongst the Senior male rankings, yes true, he did not compete. However, don't despair, it has now been confirmed that Luca was out due to an injury over the last two months and is now back in action and will be in Argentina, in force. Junior world no.2, Andrea Barbieri (left) won the Senior division, Mauro Mazzoni in 2nd, a strong return after his absence from the sport since the 2000 worlds, and Davide Profita in third.  It was certainly sad not to see names so familiar such as, Patrick & Beatrice, Luca Lallai and D'Alisera in the listings, as we know - all but D'Alisera have retired from the sport. A loss that will be felt world wide, especially at the world meet in November. For all the rankings at the Championships see the following links: [View 1] [View 2] [View 3] [View 4
July 27/03 2003 Worlds Update - Revised program
The all new 2003 Worlds edition of this site will be up and running with updates in not time..  Already I've updated a full revised schedule that has had some changes made to it.. More noticeably, the Opening Ceremony for the Senior Championships will be held on the night of the Inline & Precision Long programs.. thus bringing together the total disciplines and it will also boast an Opening Ceremony with up to 1000 competitors with all the skaters together. This is fantastic and great promotion for all disciplines. The senior championship training will commence the following day.
The program revision is available in English and Spanish. See here for details...
More news soon..
July 14/03 Artistic World Cup 2003 - Firenze, Italia
Proving even more successful in 2002 than the previous year, the Artistic World Cup will be back again in 2003, in Florence-Italy, December 6-8. The World Cup is the most prestigious event in Roller Sports, a gala performance that showcases the best skaters in the world, selected from the top ranking performers at the World Championships prior to the event. Patrick & Beatrice hold the titles for both years and this year should prove very interesting! Watch the site for more details. The world cup site is going through some major refurbishments and will be completely interactive when completed.. July 06/03 ...More of what's to come from Argentina..

06jul03arg_mariano.jpg (54382 bytes)
Mariano Morello
ARG

Two skaters who will be quiet achievers on the team for Argentina are no strangers to the world scene, they are Mariano Morello & Melissa Linsalatas. Morello, 23, competed at the 99 & 2001 World meets, only to suffer an exposed fracture of his leg during a training session, wiping him out for the next year and missing the championships in 2000 USA. This year, Mariano, coached by Dario Alvarez, is back and in third position, will represent Argentina in strong company of team mates Daniel Ariolla and Jordan Sorgovia.
Melissa Linsalata
represents the Alianza club in her home town of Caseros, coached by Enrique Demata, will compete for the Senior Team this year having moved up from Junior and has won her place on the team in the No.1 position. Melissa has competed at the past world championships including 2002 in which she ranked in the top group. Both skaters will certainly have the support of the home town and will be skaters to watch for in the future.. Good luck guys...
