State Championships off to a good start.. |
|

Kris,
Jay & Tammy
|
Last
night saw the opening of the Victorian Roller Sports
Championships an all Inline affair.. well, not completely but
amongst the highlights were some entertaining inline
performances, including interstate former World Champion -
Tammy Bryant, with her spectacular inline skills amazing
everyone - boy can she clock up that heel camel, scores
ranging from 8.7-9.3. Kristen Slade & Lauren
Smith also took honors in that division. International
skaters, Jenny Nisi & Kylie Russell were
leading both the International events on roller. I had to have
the last laugh, tripping during my step sequence in the short
prog. and falling in to a back somersault!! I'll have to
perfect that for Nationals now!! A full round up of the 2day
event will be found here soon, including more images
and news..

Hot stuff - both on and now off the wheels... |
 |
Can
there be any hotter x-skaters on the planet than these two?
Argentina is producing some of the finest athletes on the
International circuit and these guys are no exception.. Florencia
Sacherro & Diego Farina both competed at numerous
world meets over the last years. Florencia taking the podium
on many occasions, though now they are steaming up the modeling,
tv and film circuit.. Look
out!!!

16/03 ...
bringing Venice beach to Melbourne!!! |
 |
It
wasn't exactly a perfect Summer's day in Melbourne yesterday,
but it certainly wasn't too bad for Winter as Kristen Adly
(Slade) and I both decided to head down to the beach and
take Inline Figure skating to the street!!! Elsternwick
beach boasts this beautiful little former market site with a
decent concreted floor.. so we thought, why not, and boy did
we pull in the crowd, with 'whoos' and 'aaahhs'
heard in the distance from enthusiastic onlookers... |
 |
It
was a really good feeling to know that people were noticing
our sport and obviously blown away by what we could do on the
inlines... I guess its not every day you see someone on the
beach doing a 'triple salchow!!'.. or a girl in a
leotard doing a travelling camel down towards you on
the path!! It was really good fun and we were there for about
2hours.. I'll be taking Tammy Bryant and Lauren Smith there
in a few weeks when they come to Melbourne, the four of us
with our Custom
Inlines.. So I'll get some pictures then! I'm sure it will
be awesome!! You
know the beauty of this, after 2hrs, our wheels weren't even
damaged in the slightest!! Gotta love that!!!
In a time of dramatic decline for our sport in all
disciplines, growth on inline is very important to assist with
numbers across the board as roller continues to have its ups and
downs, even though the standard is always improving, the numbers are
not &
this is fact. But there is interest from the general public on
inline and when kids know you can do fancy tricks on them -
they are genuinely very interested.. By the end of the year,
myself and a few other coaches at our rink will be launching a new program that
will highlight the inline aspect and try to generate new blood
in to the sport and our now very small, once the biggest,
Artistic club.. Any other clubs running such programs or
classes, I would love to hear from you.. Email |

16/03 SKATER
OF THE YEAR.... viva - la RIVA!!!! |
Champions
like young Roberto Riva are rare, an equaled skill in both artistry
and technical ability - combined with the mastering of the
figures, Riva is one of the true greats of Roller Sports. Riva's
achievement in 2002 has only ever been achieved at a world
meet on a debut performance once before, by the superb Chiara
Sartori
of Italy in 1985, in which she went on to repeat three years successively. I salute Riva on this site as the
rolaboi
'ATHLETE OF THE YEAR....' A small tribute to one hell of an
athlete... See here

13/03 Big
gun on wheels - is back... |
Not
since the year 2000 have we seen one of the great skaters of Italy, Mauro
Mazzoni. After a countless number of brilliant performances at
World meets since his debut in 1993 - Bordeaux, France, Mauro took
the podium - year after year, even the Gold, for which many believe
he should have taken 'more than once!!'... Well, now - Mauro is
back, training hard and back in action and already in the
competition circle, hitting the No.2 position in his most recent
assault. Whether or not Mauro will compete in the National title has
not been confirmed, but it certainly would be great to see him again
on the world scene, a favourite of many.. Good Luck Mauro!! |

13/03 Stars
on wheels... the hottest of 2002.. |
In
2002 there were some very fine performances at the World
Championships in the Senior events and here we pay a small tribute
to many of the outstanding athletes, some of whom will not return in
2003, sadly. Naturally, we would like to include many more athletes
in this area and it will grow over the next weeks.. In the meantime,
these are the real stars who shone and brought the audiences to
their knees.. Enjoy, and pay tribute to these guys, a small way of
showing respect for our athletes... It's hard to come by in our
sport and via the internet, you can make a difference in supporting
such great athletes... view here |

11/03 SKATER
OF THE YEAR AWARD... |
There
have been some outstanding achievements over the past year, many -
in fact too many too mention in one hit, including sheer brilliance
from Patrick & Beatrice, Luca Lallai, Heather Mulkey, Roberto
Riva, Luca D'Alisera, all the dance teams... to name a few.. I
have decided to give an award via this site, for an outstanding
achievement in 2002 - to a skater who literally dominated their
discipline and have proved to be an amazing talent... This skater
will receive the 'Rolaboi - 2002 SKATER OF THE YEAR AWARD'. For
now though, as the page is prepared, I'll keep you in suspense as to
who the winner of this award is! Stay tuned.. |

11/03 Get
in-line... |
Since
the introduction of inline figure skating on the world scene, there
has been a steady flow of inquiries through this site regarding the
discipline and I have been happy to respond and assist in any way I
can... However, over the last two months I have been inundated with
requests for information on the frames and also the discipline
itself.. There seems to be a huge interest out there and I am really
overwhelmed by the amount of traffic generated here in response to
the small amount of information I have available on the site..
Please, if you have any enquiries at all, don't hesitate to contact
me, but please allow some delay as I am still working through
the backlog of mail that I have now... You can also visit the EIFSA
site, that has a HUGE amount of information regarding inline.. Or
take a visit to the SkateGrrl site for inline
here..
Cheers! Visit the Custom Inline V1 page

10/03 The
boys at it again in round 3... |
It
was only a few weeks back that we reported about the show down
between Argentina's hottest skaters, Jordan Sergovia and Daniel
Arriolla at a National meet with Sergovia coming out on
top after a brilliant short program.. Well, over the weekend
the boys (and the rest of the country) were at it again in the
final round of the National qualifying meets for selection to
the 2003 World Championships, only this time - Arriolla took
home the Gold with another spectacular performance..
Meanwhile, Argentina's first Inline National title was won by
former World Roller medallist, Walter Eglesis. Walter
will now go on to be the first skater from his country to
compete at the world meet on inline, making for some great
competition to build up the Inline event, having performed
some great triple jumps in the exhibition program following a very
entertaining short program (long program not contested). More news on Argentina's finest in
the weeks to come! Pictured

08/03 Will
does a double take... |
You've
seen young William Salsbury (pictured
left in Jan 2002) on here once before in the news.. well this
weekend he was in Melbourne for some lessons and I had a great time
working with him.. Not only is he one hell of little artistic roller
skater, National champ to add, he is also showing his talent on
Inline now and he is doing great! Will is used to training on a
small rink and couldn't believe the size of the luxurious Caribbean
rink, Rollerama.. He loved it and enjoyed training with all the
other skaters there. William is off to Perth in September to compete
at the National meet, in the mean time he'll perform this week in a
variety show and keep up to speed with his gymnastics! Will is
coached by Mia Tolfree in NSW and is certainly one of the up
and coming male skaters in Australia... |

07/03 Stars
on Wheels.. |
|

|
Italy,
the host of many wonderful skate shows, again announces another
prestigious event, STARS ON WHEELS.. An international
feast of the finest performers on skates. Saturday June 7 at 21.00hr
- Palasport Vesima - Cairo Montenotte (Savona). Shows like
this are testament to the success of roller sports in Italy and a
key element to the continued numbers of skaters participating in the
sport. Big shows involve hundreds of skaters and is certainly
something many of the non competitive kids can look forward
to. Watch for many more great shows like this by the end of
the year. See FIHP
for more info.. |

06/03 He
was a skaterboi.... he said see you later boi!! |
It
wasn’t so long ago that Ryan Allen Carrillo was a
Bible-carrying, roller-skating, good Jehovah’s Witness boy living
with his parents. His
life revolved around school, church and roller-skating practice.
He was one of the best young roller-skaters in the country,
(competed at 1999 worlds for precision also) able to twirl girls on his outstretched arms and perform precise
tricks like a figure skater. (pictured left
with Jennifer Orcutt)
In 1990, Rollerblades arrived on the scene, the sport of inline
skating was born and, with that, Ryan’s personal scene began to
change. Several years
later, at 21, he ditched the Bible, shelved the roller-skates, moved
out of his parents’ house and started living life. Read

Show
groups that leave you speechless... |
|

|
A
Show group in Italy hadn't been enjoying great success as a
team, and they soon approached top choreographer - Sandro
Guerra - to create a new program for them. Sandro hadn't
worked with groups prior to this and chose to make the
performance in his own way. The rest is history.... |

|
| At
the recent Italian Group Championships, the group took the
floor with their brand new work, which had already caused much
discussion at a recent local competition, and blew away the
crowd with their mesmerizing performance in tradition with the
holocaust theme. There final pose, as pictured above, closes
with them collapse in a swats sticker sign and that's when
then jaws drop. The program will leave you speechless and you
can only take a deep breath and thank yourself for witnessing
it, if you see it live. I was at a dress rehearsal and the
costuming also is amazing, the story is brought forward in to
a modern space like era, yet fitting in every way... Former
World Champion Team, New Age, made only 3rd position at
the championships which means the defending World No.1's will
not be in Argentina to contest.. The team
members were thrilled to win the Italian Championships and were all really friendly.
We promised to party hard
after the final program in Argentina.. so I shall hold you
guys to that!!! .. Enjoy everyone.. |

Argentina
- bring out the big guns... |
Argentina
is certainly producing the goods lately and the performances at the
recent National meet proved to be no exception with outstanding
showings from Jordan Sergovia and Daniel Ariolla.
After a brilliant short progam from Sergovia, including a
triple loop combination, he found himself sitting firmly in first
position while Ariolla suffered from a fall on a double axel
leaving him in second with a large margin in the scores. The long
program proved to be equally as exciting with Sergovia giving the
performance of his life and scores ranging across 9.7s, triple loop,
flip and lutz jump combos included and a fantastic array of A'Class
spinning... But it was Arriolla who took the floor and
commanded victory, and a perfect triple axel, a triple
loop-loop-triple loop comb and a triple lutz-loop-triple loop combo
cemented his performance as the winner on the night with the judges
awarding four perfect scores of 10.0, but the drama
doesn't stop there - Arriola's mistakes in the short program
cost him the championship title, giving the Gold medal to Sergovia..
Jordan is the new National Champion... These guys are going to bring
the house down with the home crowd support at the world
championships this year, a must event for sure!! Pictured

Discussion
time... brand new forum online.. |
| There's
no better way to keep up to date than by making use of a forum and
the more members that register the better. I have setup a brand
new forum attached to this site and I hope it will strengthen
communications throughout the sport. It will also act as a fantastic
tool for results and event listings... During National and world
meets it will be exceptional, especially when u just have to log in,
add your post and go.. come back a day later and update again! For
all to see.. spread the word and lets try and build this forum up so
it becomes the SKATE
CHAT CENTRAL... (by the way... there's a section there for a bit
of gossip too! Enjoy!) |

Goss is...
Matt's back!! |
For
just on four years now I have run a fan
site for singer, Matt Goss.. during this period he has kept a
pretty low profile, until now!! Having previously sold over 15
million records as front man for Bros, Matt will commence a tour of
UK on July 14 and has a brand new track 'WATCH ME FALL' hitting
UK radio now.. Thanks to Matt and management, via my site TEN lucky
people who purchase tickets at each of his UK shows will win a VIP
table, backstage pass and meet Matt himself. Not half bad hey! Matt
would have to be the nicest bloke in Pop.. Check
him out!! |

Viva
Italia... |
During
April I spent a few weeks in Italy, working with Sandro Guerra on my
long program for 2003, and what a trip it was. Sandro's schedule was
extremely hectic and it was great to meet up with different skaters
daily who were flying in from all over Europe to work with him and
add final touches to their already completed works he had done for
them for this year. Italy has always been good to me and found here
is a few pages of photos
from my trip, including some big nights out with my new found
friends, Federico, Anotonio, Rosa, Miria, Berta and Sandro... ciao!! |

site... |
| Have
to apologise for the LONG period in which this site hasn't been
updated.. really - I just haven't had time to commit to it
unfortunately. I've just returned from Italy where I was working on
my new long program for 2003, with Sandro Guerra, which was
fantastic and I had a great time.. and now, back at home I'm busy
working on my ROLABOi
clothing range, which is coming along really well and will be in
stores August 15.. I promise, things will be back to normal on this
site soon... |

New coach
on Queensland soil... |
| It's
been a long time between new International coaches to make their way
to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, but within weeks, skaters in
Australia will be welcoming with open arms, Imelda Hailes,
from New Zealand. Imelda is moving here to live and will be offering
her expertise in coaching on the local skate circuit. Imelda has
been coach of many fine skaters, including World No.3 Junior
combined skater, Sarah Jane Jones (figures) and also Jacqui Innes.
So look out to all the other states now.... coz Queensland will have
some real fire power now! If you are interested in working with
Imelda, please mail here.. |

2003
Worlds Schedule... |
| This
site is temporarily down during a break period.. but I thought I
would add this for all those who are keen to know of the revised
scheduling... Note, the Inline event is now broken up over a two day
period for the short and long program, instead of on the same night.
Precision will also be contested during that weekend. For the
complete revised schedule, click
here.. (I'll be back online soon... ) |
