Sept.25/02 O.T.C Applications
The United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado extends the invitation to skaters throughout the world. The training camp is held from 3-10 of November by US Roller Sports at the OTC. Applications to attend the seminar can be downloaded and competed via US Roller Sports site. [here]
Sept.25/02 It's all up and go in Wuppertal..
The Junior World Championships are underway and all skaters, from what I have heard, like the floor. Apparently it has been uplifted and over turned, for what reason I don't know, but now its just raw plain ply wood!??  I'll have to see on Friday when I get there! There haven't been any updates on any of the Official sites, so I don't think it's going to be too easy for people (once again) to find info on the net about the Championships. Hopefully once I get online in Germany I'll be able to get the worlds section up and running! ...[here]
Sept.14/02 European Championships 2002..
brunom1.jpg (19094 bytes)

It's been rather quiet on the news front of late but meanwhile, the Junior and Senior European Championships have successfully been contested. All results have been posted on the FIHP site. Bruno Rivaroli (left), Italia, won the Men's Free, while Pietro Mazzetti, Italia, took out the combined event. Laura Sanchez (right) must have held it together well and good in the long and blitzed the field, she was miles ahead going by the scores. Soledad|Moreno won the dance event easing in ahead of the Italians. Portugal has some good results with Diana Ribeiro snatching a bronze behind the two Spanish girls. There was no stopping the Junior male, Manuel Magalhaes, taking the singles and combined event with ease.

Many of the National Teams depend on results from the European championships before finally selecting their Team, even if the skater has won Nationals, it doesn't necessarily mean they will automatically qualify, especially if not up to scratch at Europeans. The Spanish Team, for instance, will be decided immediately following and hopefully we can announce that here soon. For all results, see here.

Sept.13/02 He will, 'make your heart sing'....
2002matt3.jpg (14170 bytes)

Since 1988 I have been a big fan of male vocalist, and former Bros front man, Matt Goss.. Having sold over 17million albums world wide, they were one of the biggest bands in the late 80's.. since then, and following the split of the band, Matt has been involved in some great projects, including two solo albums, The Key and One (alias Co*Bra - working with Italian Dj, Joe T Vanelli). During this time, I have run a fan site dedicated to Matt and it was today that I received a phone call from L.A and it was Matt himself.. yes.. quite true! I was contacted by his management some weeks ago with news of his new workings and that he wanted to get in touch with me and thank me for all the support via my fan site.. and he did! We had a great chat and it was very overwhelming.

2002matt2.jpg (12236 bytes)

We spoke for about 30mins and he played me one of his new tracks, Face The Wind, which sounded brilliant. He is now putting the finishing touches on his new album and has been working with writers/producers, Rodney Jerkins, Peter Mokran, Carol Bayer-Sager & Tommy Simms.  Anyway, I wanted to share this with you all! If you are interested, you can check out my MG fan site.. or stay tuned for his new official site opening here (soon)..

Sept.04/02 New Athlete of the Month..
Having recently blitzed the U.S National Championships, Joshua Rhoads is now preparing for his sixth World meet, to be held of course in Wuppertal in October.. Joshua's success doesn't stop there, he has (for those of you who don't know him) been ranked amongst the Top 10 in the World since 1997 with a No.3 ranking included and a Silver medal at the World Games in 2001 held in Japan last year. Joshua's popularity world wide is contributed to his laid back approach and fun personality on the rink and also known for his amazing choreography and spectacular footwork (coached by Scott Cohen). Believe me, I get loads of emails from skaters around the world wanting more, more, more.. Well now, to satisfy those requests, Joshua is the Athlete of the Month.. Good luck!!!  See here
Sept.04/02 Colombian Team looking for sponsor.. but they are'nt the only ones!
Recently it was reported that the National Team of Argentina was desperately looking for financial assistance to get their athletes to the World Championships, now it seems the Colombian Team are in the same boat. Their team has been selected but they are looking for a sponsor to assist. Whilst this is the case for many of the teams overseas lately, our Athletes back home in Australia skaters have had this struggle for decades. We are one of the only teams in the world who are not funded by their Federation to compete at International events and are hit with bills for the trip for up to $5000.00 every year which includes all attired, accommodation, travel and meal allowances. Not all countries are fully funded but a large portion of their expenses are met. The Senior Teams in Australia don't quite feel the pinch as hard (compared to the Junior Team) because there is limited assistance from the Government which helps immensely. But when it comes to crunch time, all the skaters with the help of clubs, friends & parents, they get together and fundraise and get there in the end. It's a long haul to the top when you are paying through your back teeth for it... but I don't think there is anyone with regret... Any offers of support in the way of sponsorship or assistance can be delivered here for more information.
Sept.02/02 A look back at 2001: The World Gala - hot new images!
The Artistic World Cup will be held on November 30 in Florence again this year after the success of the event following the World Championships. The competition showcases the elite and only permits skaters to compete whom have been placed amongst the Top 3 in their discipline. There are also four wild cards given. This year, there is even a possibility of the winners of the Inline events to be invited to contest. Now though, we have just put up a brand new collection of never before seen images from the 2001 Gala courtesy of organizer, Franco Culcasi. The images certainly give you a taste of what the public witnessed last year in will certainly be seeing yet again come November 30.. See here
Sept.01/02 Spanish delights.. National Championships in Reus.

spain1.jpg (26150 bytes)

Back in 1997, the World Championships were held in the beautiful coastal resort of Reus. It was certainly one of the best championships I had been to and Reus was just wonderful. This time round, it is the host of the 2002 Spanish Nationals and we have all the results for you from the Senior portion of the event. I am not sure though as to which competitors make up the World Team.. Pictured left top: Silvia Nohales No.1

Aug.31/02 Just how many TRIPLE AXELS are we expecting to see???
dalisera2002_1.jpg (16610 bytes) It was earlier in June this year at a regional meet in Italy when news first broke that Luca D'Alisera had landed the first triple axel in history in a competition, then it was at the Italian Championships last month when both Luca Lallai and D'Alisera were doing them in warm up for the event. And finally, it was when FIHP released video footage of D'Alisera making his jump perfectly in the championship that the rest of the world was left breathless. But wait... me suspects there's more going on around the globe!! Could there be more individuals working on the item that has everyone talking? Now that D'Alisera has opened the gateway, I tend to think the bulls will start running and we will be in for an explosion of a new technical high! Just lets wait and see in Wuppertal and find out exactly who is.. and isn't! lallai2002_1.jpg (20257 bytes)

Aug.31/02 Venerucci tradition continues... 9.9 for his daughter!!
venerucci1.jpg (33160 bytes) Like Father like daughter.. Patrick Venerucci has been World Champion in Pairs over the last decade scoring 10.0 on numerous occasions with partner Beatrice Polazzi Rossi, and it looks like the tradition will continue. Sara and partner, Matteo Guarise compete in Cadet Pairs and at this weeks European Championships they took out the title in spectacular style with scores as high as 9.9!!! Sara has also been taking the freeskating world by storm (like most Italians do!) and winning competitions all year round. No doubt, it will only be a matter of years before they take the world crown..  venerucci2.jpg (28227 bytes)

The Official listings from CIPA have been released and are up to date. They can now be found on our special 2002 Worlds section. Please note that there may be additions to any event up until registration day. Argentina is not included in any of the listings, so for one, they may be a late nomination for starters. Things are looking good though.. See here
Aug.29/02 Crisis in Argentina may prevent a Team in Wuppertal..
daniel2.jpg (75521 bytes)The critical financial status of Argentina at the moment has forced the Arg.$ to an all time low causing great concern for skaters in the National Team for Argentina as to whether or not they can actually go to the World meet. Skaters have already indicated that they couldn't possibly go to Germany without the assistance of the Federation and are in desperate need of such support. It would be a great shame for the sport and for the athletes in Argentina. Financial strains are felt throughout the country, not only in roller sports. We can only hope that support comes through and the athletes are able to attend.. Pictured: Daniel Arriola - 2001 World No.3 Mens FS

Aug.27/02 Team Mexico growing bigger every year..
mexico02.jpg (20936 bytes)Mexico will be sending it's biggest team yet to this year's World Championships in Wuppertal. Trainer, Tamara Campos, tells me that Mexico's team will include skaters competing in both Figures and Freeskating in the Junior Championships and they will also be sending a Precision team for the very first time. This will also be the first time a Precision team has been sent to worlds from outside of the US, Oceania & Europe.
Aug.27/02 Taipei turn out in fine form..
When more than 150skaters get together and try to put on one show, it certainly can become quite a task, but in Taipei they certainly seem to manage really well and all in the matter of about one months preparation! The 90min show on Saturday in Taipei proved more than popular with the media and the public. More than 4,000 spectators through the door with only standing room after 7.30pm. Taipei's top skaters did some great exhibitions and club skaters did many entertaining group numbers. It was great fun and I really enjoyed being there. More news and pictures as soon as I get them.. See here for last years show spectacular.
Aug.27/02 Young guns out in force in Europe..
The top Cadet & Youth athletes are gathering in Scanno, Italy, for the 2002 European Championships. Skaters from all over Europe including, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Great Brittain, Spain & Slovenia will contest over the next few days.. Top favourite Roberto Riva, Italy, will again compete in the Youth Mens divsion in a lead up to his world debut in Wuppertal. Last year, Riva, won the Youth event hands down with as little as two perfect scores of 10.0 for his long program. A full listing of competitors and events can now be viewed at FIHP. Good luck to all.. See here for complete athlete listing.
Aug.22/02 Show time in Taipei. again in 2002..
It was August last year when I jetted off to China to skate in their Annual show held in Central Taipei. Over 150 skaters join together to put on a grand show attracting around 5.000 spectators (as you can see in the audience left).
Now, I'm happy to be have been invited again and I will be leaving for China in a few hours to perform on Saturday 24th August in the show, and on Inline's, marking my first international performance on them!. I'm really looking forward to meeting up with all the lovely people I met last year and the good friends I have known for since back as far as 1994. See here for last years show spectacular.
Aug.20/02 Worlds are only a breath away now..

Aug.18/02 Bryan Kuhn, USA skater & wrestling.. perfect combination!
Bryan Kuhn, USA, will be making his second consecutive appearance at a World Figure Skating Championships, but this time Kuhn will be going to Wuppertal, Germany, as the Junior World Class Men's Freestyle champion. Kuhn, 16, of Erie, Pa., who competed as an alternate at last year's Junior World Class Championships in Florence, Italy, placed eighth overall. Third at nationals in 2001, Kuhn was named to junior Team USA when Brandon Huedepohl elected not to travel to Italy following the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C... "My coach, Darlene Waters, is great with picking out the choreography," said Kuhn. Waters had a hand in two gold medal performances Thursday evening. Prior to the junior world class men taking the floor, Lindsay Mann, 16, of South Lyon, Mich., won the Junior World Class Women's Freestyle championship. "Our coach works hard with all her skaters and it shows at nationals," said Kuhn. Read the full story here at journalstar.com  Best of Luck to Bryan & Lindsay in Germany..
