| Loss of a
dedicated Official and volunteer in Victoria.. |
| Roller Sports
relies heavily on volunteers in all areas of the world and
Victoria is no exception. Sadly on Sunday December 2, Graeme
Thompson, husband of Julie Thompson, passed away. Graeme was the
Artistic League director for many years and also in charge of being
mc on many occasions along with wife Julie. My condolences to Julie
and family. |
| Thankyou.. we

|
Thankyou! It was a goal I had hoped we would
achieve, though I didnt think it would be possible, but thanks
to all of whom who have spread the word and checked in during
the 2001 Firenze Frenzy, we cracked the 20,000 mark for the
amount of hits in one day...
I am pleased to say that
on Sunday 25th of Nov, this site had 20,613 hits.. bringing our 14
day total to 165,853
hits.. An all time high for jsi and a sign that
next year will be even bigger and better.. And I'll be there
this time with a laptop to provide even better coverage!! So,
keep it in mind, coz next year... You'll hear it, see it and
live it.. right here.... Cheers... and
Thanks.. | |

Federations completely miss the boat during Worlds
2001... |
|
Traffic to this site during 2001
Worlds to date - Special
thanks to all the visitors to this site..
|
During the 2001 World Artistic Championships I
have been flooded with email, and thank you to all those who
have written, from skaters, parents etc. from around the world
expressing their gratitude for all the updates on the World
Championships throughout the last two weeks. And within many
of the emails, people all seem to be of the same opinion that
the Federation they belong to just doesnt or hasn't supplied
any results or updates at all..
This
unfortunately is the truth, and its really a time when
Sporting bodies should focus great attention to their most
influential source of media, their websites. Members alike are
automatically going to go straight to their own countries site
to see how their skaters are doing and sadly enough, there's
no news there to be read. So hopefully in the future this will
change, and the proof is right here..
I am amazed and
so happy to tell you that since November 10, 2001, this site
has had 121,842 hits from around the
world. A large amount of that traffic is directed directly to
the Firenze section. So I am extremely pleased to have been
able to provide such up to date news for all and so many. It
would not have been possible without the assistance of
Jonelle McKane and Kristen Slade, both whom were
and are in Italy at the Championships & have sent so many
sms messages and emails..
Thankyou! | |
| Elise earns
herself the highest honour in British Skating... |
After only just a few
years of hard work and dedication have really paid off
for Hazel Grove’s young 11yr old Elise Hadgraft. Not only has it earned her
some exceptional results at every level of her sport this year (up
to and including the European Championships), but also recognition
and acknowledgement from international TV giants SKY SPORTS. And on
top of that, she has just won the highest award in her sport in this
country - probably the youngest recipient ever! Elise has been
awarded the On Saturday
10th November, while assisting at an official Training
Day in Fort William, Scotland, her Coach Miles Moorcroft called
Elise up in front of the assembled skaters, coaches and
parents. As far as
Elise knew, she was about to be asked to demonstrate a jump, spin or
other technique. Instead, Miles
simply handed her a sealed envelope. On opening the letter, which
was from the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating (FARS - the
sport’s British governing body) Elise learned that they had decided
to present her with the Coggins Trophy.
The highest award in the sport
in Britain regardless of age, the Coggins Trophy is presented
annually to the skater whom the Board of FARS feel has given “the
best performance in an International Championships or
competition.” Elise was chosen in recognition of her
9th place at the 2001 Cadet European Championships and
her 6th at the Cup of Europe competition, held in Holland
shortly after the European Championships.

Demonstrations Star in Firenze... |
Team Show Skates: You may not
know alot about this event, not many of us do outside of Europe, but
it debuted at the World Championships earlier today in Firenze as a
demonstration event. Ten Teams took part in the display event, and
from what I was told - it was very impressive - though very very
similar to Precision - and perhaps too close for it to make any kind
of impact. Though I am sure more information will be available soon
as we learn if the event will also be included in the 'growing'
number of events being added to the World Art.

Cardenas, Junior and Junior World Class skater from the U.S wont

to be in the future and he has be good enough to send in some news
about a skater from Colombia (and good friend of mine), Angelica
Acebedo. He reports she skated with stlye and grace, capturing
her 7th national title in Colombia. Daniel and Angelica are great

Italian Youth Skater Roberto
Riva, remember the name - because if you haven't heard of him yet,
YOU WILL.. I have just watched some videos from the Cadet/Youth
European Championships and I have to say, there hasn't been anything
like him since Luca D'Alisera came on to the scene. Roberto's
performances at the Championships in Slovenia earned him no less
than five 10.0 perfect scores for his long program, consisting of a
magnificent triple lutz, flip, mape, salchow, & other
combinations. His spins are great and his artistic ability is
inspiring. Hopefully in the near future you will see Roberto
featured here on this site...

| Young new British
skater gets Sky high.... |
Elise Hadgraft: Young skater from
the UK contacted me via my site and since we have become great
friends. I've received some great videos from her and soon there
will be some more info on her on this site. For the moment, you can
check out her new addition to the SKY SPORTS web site.. heres a
sneak preview...
SKY SPORTS PROFILE: There are
scores of talented youngsters in this country who you don't hear
about simply because their sport isn't massive in the UK. Artistic
roller skater Elise Hadgraft is a prime example.
This
wonderfully-skilful sport is huge on the continent and Elise has
been turning heads all round Europe this year with her captivating
displays of poise and elegance.
Elise, who became the British
free skating elementary champion for the first time in May, finished
tenth at the German Cup in Freiburg, a superb result against much
older girls... {..read more] |
| New athlete of the
month and feature interview.. |
Dont forget to visit our 'athlete of
the month'. This month, we celebrate Caitlyn Botica from Australia
as she is about to compete at her first World Junior Championships.
Good Luck Caitlyn..
And we also have a special
feature interview with the Australian Team Coach for 2001 World
Championships, Steve Bowman, and I think you'll find that really
interesting. Enjoy.. |
| Is concern growing for
skaters attending the World Artistic Championships? |
| The U.S Federation met yesterday to make a final decision as
to whether or not the U.S Artistic Team would be sent to
Florence in November. The final decision was made and agreed that
the Team would attend, though all athletes must sign a document to
ensure that USACRS are released of all responsibility if
anything was to happen at any stage. All Athletes must decide by
Monday as to whether or not they will comply with this agreement and
as to if they will compete. It is said that replacements in
descending order of placement from the National Championships will
be given the opportunity to attend at this late stage if any skaters
choose not to compete. Our opinion poll
currently running on this site indicates that it is not in favour of
the staging of the event in Europe next month.. |
| FIRS site under attack
for the second time.. |
FIRS seem to
be having some major problems at their Official site. For the second
time this month they have been hacked in to and their site
completely wiped and replaced with messages saying FIRS sux etc. The
latest hack seems to have come from a org. in Brazil by the looks of
the signage left on the site.. All seems to be back in working
order now as the down time was only over the weekend period..

| 2001 Australian Roller
Sports round up! |
| Its Saturday and the last item on the agenda is the closing
dinner party.. though with many people flying out of NSW due to
flight shortages, Im not sure how many are going? But usually the
night is sold out and pretty good.
In
closing the championships, there were some pretty good good events
to be seen. Though my attendance at the championships was limited, I
do believe that some of the skating was quite good. I saw the Junior
International ladies event final and it was pretty good. A close
call between Victorian Jenny Nisi (2nd in the short) and Lauren
Backrack (WA - 3rd in short) caused for good competition. A strong
opening performance from Lauren put the pressure on, and whilst no
great number of difficult items were performed by either, the
prorams themselves were good. Final result, Lauren pushing her way
in to 2nd to retain her spot on the Aust. Team from 2000. Winner
Caitlyn Botica gave a nice performance though failed to complete the
big items, scoring high 8.4 - 8.8 gave the highest marks of the
championships and best performance of all week.
Dance events
were taken up by many and some of the solo dance events were really
interesting, Senior OSP was great taken out by Erin Simpson with a
great 2nd place by Luisa Franzke, she really got the crowd going.
Amy van Effrink short program was great and almost saw her take the
no.1 position in the Senior Short program. She went on to take the
silver in the final. Great skate by Ashleigh Heasman in the Cadet
grade and by 2nd position Natasha Gundlack from SA. And I was quite
impressed by the girls from 'The Rink' in WA.. Angelina &
Joanna, they have some really good choreography and do some
interesting moves, coached by Susan Brooks, Joanna was 3rd in Junior
Ladies F/S. Theres so many to make note of but honestly, I just
wasnt there, most of the time I was in Sydney, shopping around and
doing other things.. but Im sure all went well.. I ll get some sort
of round up soon..
