U.S Superstar MYA features local skaters in new video clip!!  [16 Mar.01]
American Pop/RnB singer, MYA, currrently sitting on top of the Australian Singles charts with her song 'Case of the Ex' now features many US skaters in her new clip 'FREE'. Having seen the clip on MTV Australia tonight in the US Top 20 at No.11,  I was very surprised to see some familiar faces, the most noticeable being 'Billy Crowder'.. I think the other skater doing pairs may have been Brian Richardson but I am not sure! But it's a great clip and some good skating action included.. a few pairs lifts, a great O.B sit by Billy and some other little tricks!  This isn't the first of it's kind of late, from memory there were clips also very similar from, Sugar Ray and Kellis. Checkout out MTV.com for more news...

[15] 2000 Art Worlds a success..
The Artistic Worlds this year in Springfield were a big success.. And next year it's off to Florence in Italy were the championships will be held.  As always, you can expect large crowds and great atmosphere, which was lacking in the USA..  Interestingly enough, the Ice Skater that attended the championships has done a complete review of the competition, lots of photos (great quality too) and a very in depth overview on what she really thought of the competition, some very worthy comments perhaps the organizers should take note of.. go here for a good look:  Ice Skater's thoughts...

Further updates and results from the competition can be found on the official worlds site and also on the FIHP site. In which now they have a section where you can vote for you favourite picture from worlds and also from the past.. FIHP / WORLDS

[14] 2000 Worlds underway...
Though I can say at this stage... Yesterday saw April Dayney retain World No.1 ranking in figures, Australia's results were: Karen Clough - 16th, Emmsa Ramsey - 24th and Sarah Williams - 27th.. Elisa from Italy second and USA third.  Pairs short program was a great event with Patrick & Beatrice leading with a spectacular short (wait for the long, choreographed by Sandro Guerra - it is the best program I have ever seen ).. 2nd fellow Italian Team and strong competition from Argentina and USA.. Our dancers contested a very strong field in the dance and performed very well.. scores ranging from 7.5 - 8.7  Well done to Christine and Philip and Gawaine & Esther..  More news soon..

[13] US Nationals Update of finals..
US Nationals proved to be quite an event with some very interesting results in the World Class Senior Grades.  Eric Anderson took out the mens singles with a strong long program, whilst Henry Elliot was first in the short program after completing a great program including 'double axel-loop-triple loop' combination.  Josh Rhoads took moved to second position in the final and was sixth in the short program.  Toby Mathews took the third place and also made the team for combined Figure and Freestyle, the first American Male to contest both since, from memory, Kevin Caroll back in 1988. The dance event had a few surprises and upsets, `99 World Champions Tim and Tara were in second after the comp. dances and OSP, then a fall in the first minute of the Freedance didn't help but they still managed to make the team and placed third. So we get to see them again at Worlds where I am sure they will be in great form.  Adam White and Melissa Quinn took out the Gold.  1999 World Champion Heather Mulkey was in third after the short program, performing triple mapes - loop - triple mapes for her combination and had a fall on her triple lutz which put her in third position. Jennifer Orcutt and Jennifer Simmers were in 1st and 2nd with clean programs. Heather was also seen attempting triple axel in the warm ups, though landed under rotated on her toe stop, her long program was strong and moved her in to second position under Jennifer Simmers, Jennifer Orcutt taking third.  On another note, Italian Team news, the men's singles are apparently: Mauro Mazzoni, Luca Lallai and Daniele Tofani with no inclusion of Junior World Champion Luca D'Alisera.  This is yet to be confirmed.

[10] U.S Nationals set to get underway on Aug 6-16 for Artistic.. in Nebraska?
[top] The U.S National Championships have commenced, they are held from July 26 - August 16 inclusive, though the Artistic section goes from around the 5-16th. One thing does intrigue me though, and that's as to why their Nationals are held in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Pershing Auditorium?? Traditionally, countries that are hosting the World Artistic Championships tend to hold their National meet in the same venue. Not the case here though!!  Some great skating I am sure will be seen over the next week, and come finals night on Saturday 16th, we will know who the world Team is.. Eric Anderson will be contesting, Tim and Tara take the floor for dance and a crop of new skaters in World Class no doubt will have a few tricks up their sleeves.. We will bring you all the results soon.. For more info: http://www.usacrs.com/
[9] Italian Championships.... Luca Vs Luca
[top] Well Italian Championships are now over and they produced some very interesting results.... the first major event for Luca D'Alisera outside of the Junior division up against World Senior Champion Luca Lallai.. All placings in the Top 3 were made by Luca's.. World No.2 Mauro Mazzoni was in fourth.. The ladies division also proved as interesting.. During the pairs event, which was definately an exciting event apparently, the team who were coming second after the short program has somewhat of a problem prior to her long!!!, one of her skates was stolen, but Roll-Line being as good as they are, quickly mounted a frame on somebody else's boot that was worn in and off she went to perform a brilliant program and placed second. Italian Team in decided weekend of August 7.

[6] European Artistic Championships coming up!!!!!
[top] European Championships... details coming soon.. two weeks to go..
[5] Australian National Artistic championships a huge sucess..
[top] Australia's top Artistic skaters were all in town over the last week for what turned out to be a great week of competition and fun.  Daily the venue was full of people, the atmosphere was great and we witnessed some fine skating.  Tammy Bryant proved to be in fine form, along with Australian Top Junior Kristen Slade with her high scoring short program that blew away the crowd.. Kris also took the honours in the Jun International Ladies Figs.. Rachael Young's strong performance earned her second spot on the senior ladies f/s team with Amy VanEffrink skating up a storm in a strong but close 3rd.  Big surprise in Jun Ladies F/S was Lauren Bacarack, her long program pulled her up from 3rd in the short program to take the silver medal which was not only a surprise to us all but both Lauren and her coach Linda Noble.  Senior Dance was a spectacular with Guwaine & Esther's freedance scoring between 8.9 - 9.1 which was much the crowd pleaser.  Precision was equally as exciting with a strong win by Inspirations EnVogue, while new team Energy United just missed the silver 3 to 2..  All the younger divisions proved some fine performances, especially in Cadet Boys, Luke Guyetts 'The Matrix' went down a storm while new comer 'Eugene' wowed them all...a good competition that one was. More news soon.......
[4] Australian National Artistic championships ready to roll...
[top] Australia's top Artistic skaters will head to Melbourne this week for the highlight event of the year.... To be held at Springers Leisure Centre, Cheltenham Rd, Keysborough.. The opening Ceremony will be on Sunday night at 7.30pm. International divisions will be held on the Monday and Tuesday evenings including Tammy Bryant, Kristen Slade... Top Dance competitors will also be competing. Two competitors who will be missed from the championships are Lisa Gobby, who is now taking a well earned six month break and Amanda Bryant, who has sustained an ankle injury. Both will be greatly missed.  Other highlights will include the Youth and Junior girls events.  Creative solo dance, precision, figures, dance pairs and freestyle will all be contested throughout the week and promise to be a spectacular display of Artistry and athletism.
[3] 05.06.00 KYLIE MINOGUE performs in Germany with Skaters on stage!!

[2] 01.06.00  The Big Freeze continues....with a big surprise!!            [top]
An independent study conducted by HM Leisure Planning Pty. Ltd, commissioned by Sport & Recreation and the Melbourne City Council, in to the feasibility of developing an international ice skating venue in central Melbourne is now underway.
The construction of such a venue in Melbourne is supported strongly by the Australian Olympic Committee and the Aust. Institute of Winter Sports and will be a flagship venue for ice sports across Australia and for the public skating.
Four major sports would be accommodated in the new Ice venue, including: Ice Hockey, Figure Skating, Speed & Curling.  All four sports are Olympic Sports.  Reportedly, Ice Sports participation level in Victoria, only exception being Ice Hockey which is reaping the benefits of the cross flow of participants from 'ROLLER HOCKEY....'
The most exciting news about this proposal is that it reads that a number of key issues have been identified and that the ice rinks design should be capable of dual use for ROLLER and other sports.
This is fantastic and your input to the Victorian Government will make all the difference.  Let them know how important and what the impact on our sport it would make to be a part of this venture.

31.05.00  Melbourne's double freeze-over...                   [top]
In the heart of Melbourne, Victoria, we have the newly developed Docklands area, formerly known for its industrial areas and shipping wharfs - now home of the Colonial Stadium, the proposed Grollo tallest building in the world and trillions of dollars worth of state of the art apartments and office blocks, not to mention the new Paramount Pictures Theme Park.
Now, Victoria's State Government is to go ahead with the construction of 'two' Olympic size Ice Arenas both in the heart of Melbourne, being as though we are now classed as the 'Winter Sports capital of Australia'.  Each arena will be 60x30m and will boast all the features you would expect in a luxurious stadium. The decision will be made this coming Monday, June 5, though plans have already been drawn up and are underway.
Whilst this is a boost for our Ice-skating industry, and yes - it's much needed..., do we really need TWO?  This is where Roller Sports lovers can assist by writing to Government, Docklands developers or your local Council and request such venues.  Our National body should also be strongly supporting the idea and suggesting the same.
You can voice you support for a multi-purpose venue in the heart of Melbourne that includes Roller Sports facilities by writing to Victoria's Department of State and Regional Development.  Be specific in your mail and include things such as, the growth of the sport, need for such a venue, a healthy sport, great summer sport as ice is to winter.. etc. etc..
Please send your support mail to: ...[send here]  Show your support for a better Roller Sports Venue.. let it be known that we have a presence.. be a part of something that can make a difference..
