(2002) From wheels to ice.... and from ice to wheels! We venture in to the successful life and times of 2002 Olympic ranked No.12, Kevin van der Perrin. Currently ranked in the top 10 of the world and formerly Junior World No.2. Kevin has recently been adopting his skill on to inline and produced some extraordinary results...
Congratulations to Kevin for ranking No.8 at the 2005 Winter Olympic Games.. [here]
Kevin van der Perrin: Belgium - has the world on his feet..
Q1: Q1: Is it true that you started to ice-skate as a ten year old after
watching a ice show, and at the time it was your dream to star in the show?
A1:A1: Yes, it was a Disney On Ice show back in '91.
Q2:: How did it feel in 2002 at the Junior Worlds when you were ranked No.2
after previously being ranked 16th and 26th in 2001 & 2000?
A2: I was not completely satisfied, because I could have won if I skated a little better in the short program, but still it was a nice result.
Q3: It has been quoted that you were the busiest and most improved young
skater of the championships in Nagano, Japan in March 2002. Do comments like
this really build your confidence?
A3: No it doesn't.  I was so tired in Nagano.  I was sick too.  The first day I got there I landed in hospital.  I had the most problems with the qualification round.  The day of the short program I was feeling better, but I think that the illness just got worse by skating the short and I was completely dead in the finals.
Q4: You recently told EIFSA that you had been working on triple toe loop on
your inline pic skates and that it aided your quad toe loop on ice. Is this
true?
A4: Yes it is, now I'm doing triple toe loop so easily on pic skates and it helps me to complete the four rotations of the quad.
Q5: How has training on inline skates helped your ice skating, if this is
the case?
A5: You're winning very much of strength.  It also helps you building up your condition
Q6: Can you tell us if there are any plans for you to compete in, or attend
the World Inline Figure skating championships in Wuppertal, Germany 2002?
A6: I don't know yet, but I think I will not compete there.  I'm too busy.
Q7: You are the first skater from Belgium to medal at Junior World
Championships, and also the first male skater from Belgium to medal
at an ISU Championship since Fernand Leemans took the bronze at the 1947
European Championships. Does this honor give you a celebrity status in
Belgium?
A7: Yes it does, but I don't like that very much.  I prefer to do my thing on the ice and that's it.
Q8: What are your plans for the immediate future on ice and on inline? Is
there any work on ice, like a tour, that you may be participating in?
A8: No.  My goal this year is to get in top 10 at Europeans and Worlds on ice.
Q9: Can you offer advice to any figure roller skaters/inline skaters that
may assist them in their development and endeavors to achieve in areas of
excellence?
A9: I think this is different from person too person.  You just need a lot of confidence to put clean programs as much as possible.

Thank you very much Kevin, its been a pleasure doing your interview and its been a pleasure to meet with you. I'm sure both ice and roller skaters alike will enjoy your interview very much..
Very special thanks to Kevin for his time and effort in speaking with us.. Enjoy
