Dec 09/03 Photography at it best... 2003 Worlds..
Italian Photographer Raniero Corbellati, made passage to Argentina to capture the world on film for all to see, yet it wasn't quite the case after some 'in house' politics.. However, it didn't stop Raniero from taking thousands of photographs.. Yes thousands!! and none of them are less then spectacular. Sadly, the images were not available for sale during the championships, however... it is now possible for you to get your hands on probably the BEST images of you in action you will ever find..
Raniero is preparing CD's of images in high resolution for people who wish to purchase them. In almost every instance, up to 100 images were taken of each skater in every event..  All you need to do is follow this link, view the details etc. and he will then contact you.. easy as that.. Below is a sample of the images he took of me...  View the Globus form here..

Nov 24/03 Update..
Imagen 029.jpg (26453 bytes)The final group of the mens long was a major addrenalin rush with some outstanding performances, and not just from the champ, Luca D'Alisera... (he was brilliant) Itals's Andrea Barbieri was spectacular, skating before D'Alisera and really putting the pressure on, nailing every item in his program including triple axel (slight under rotation) and three triple loops, two in combination off a lutz and toe loop, amazing stuff.. Jordan Sorgovia, Argentina, also put on a great show, with an amazing program and some huge jumps that really got the crowd pumping, although still not at capacity, but a great showing, almost 5,000 spectators. Daniel Arriola, also Argentina, brought the house down with his magical program, which included his costume that projected two images of a sad and happy face on the front and back, that alternated as he flipped a piece of fabric over them, each to coincide with the mood of the program. Alongside that, he did some outstanding content, although missing the triple axel, his other items held ground and he really picked up pace by the program end, bringing the crowd to its feet. It wasn't until Luca D'Alisera though, that the crowd went wild, and although his opening item, triple axel, resulted in a fall, the rest of his program was absolutely outstanding, triple loops combinations nailed, floorless choreography and amazing footwork & interpretation brought this program together for what was, the stand out skate of the championships, truly sensational stuff.. Manuel Magalhaes, Portugal, and Leonardo Pancani, both put down solid skates and kept them inside the top 6. As predicted, there was alot of moving and shaking in the top 10, many from the lower groups in the short burst back in to the ten after strong performances, which certainly warranted the moves, including Josh Rhoads, who undoubtedly, had he skated in the top group, would have easily cemented a top 6 position.
Imagen 025.jpg (22846 bytes)The freedance event was another highlight of the championships with some wonderful performances, including the winners, Fabio Grossi & Michela Pizzi, who had the crowd captivated. Other Italian's, Marco & Emanuela Bornati, although winners in 2002, took the bronze, with an amazing freedance that was probably, a little 'too ahead of its time', and was not as well received by the judges as one would have hoped.. Adam White & Melissa Quinn, USA, in 2nd easily held ground with a very safe freedance, which also included a really trick move where they both laid back parallel to the floor, really cool that was. Argentina's Enrique Demata & Romina Del Grosso were a crowd favourite, and the highest of the Argies, although they had an unfortunate fall in the final seconds of the program. Kevin Kneeland & Tammy Gummow, USA, really looked the spot, another outstanding peformance of the night, earning them 4th, although the ordinals did give them two 3rd placings of 7. Mirko Pontello & Melissa De Candido, Italia, rounded out the top 5 in what was a spectacular event.. All teams were of the highest standards... great entertainment!
Nov 24/03 Apologies...
What a way to cap the week off... after having results up within the hour on most days, on the final evening Im almost 2days late with the final two results! Sorry to all, but lets just say - I was so sick I could not move out of bed... I kept asking if anyone knew how to update for me!! Anyway, last two results going online now..
Nov 22/03 Mens long..
Imagen 011.jpg (24017 bytes)The first two groups of the mens long have just competed and with a break in between sessions now I thought I'd drop in.. I think the leader of the group was Leonardo Pancani, Italy and Josh Rhoads, USA. They both skated well, although the scores were all a bit up and down. Both ranging from 8.2 - 9.4  Josh opened with a beautiful triple loop, in place of his triple axel jump (as practised). Leonardo did a great triple lutz/salchow combination and triple flip, without any errors except for a miss on the triple loop, a strong skate though. Mauricio from Colombia also put down some big items, and Frank Albiez, although the program was brilliantly choreographed, he missed a number of jumps unfortunately. Im not sure how much impact these performances will have on the top group, but it will place pressure on the lower half of the top ten for sure..  (Left Josh Rhoads, short program)
Nov 21/03 10.0 for the top guns...
tanja_ath_04.jpg (12340 bytes)Tanja Romano (right) cemented her name in GOLD tonight with no less than five perfect scores of 10.0 for her spectacular long program. A sheer brilliant display of outstanding ability and artistry, a combination only few can perfect and tonight we witnessed this in Romano. Her program consisted of no less than five triple jumps, all clean and fully rotated to perfection and a spectacular double axel. The only slight error was the triple loop landing in which she just turned out to the left slightly, however, in all the program was brilliant and the opening combination of Triple toeloop-loop-triple toeloop firmly planted her in the lead.  Only minutes before, Heather Mulkey skated a long porgram that could have won her any other world championships, there was no stopping Mulkey, her routine was fantastic and her determination to take a shot at gold proved she is a real champion. Italy's Sonia Traversa gave everyone a run for their money when she put down a solid performance that pushed her all the way up in to bronze, even though fellow team mate, Francesca Ciani also skated one hell of a program (including four triple jumps), only not enough to keep out Traversa. Even though Laura Sanchez opened with a wicked triple lutz euler triple salchow combination, a few other minor mistakes prevented her from posing a threat, but in hindsight it goes to show, if you aint doing clean triples, you wont even get a look in inside the top ten.
Imagen 041.jpg (21118 bytes)Now, where do I start with the mens.. obviously at the top - LUCA D'ALISERA. After a very disgruntled warm up, missing alot of items, many of us sat concerned, however Luca came out and commanded the floor with a take no prisoner attitude and nailed everything, including an absolutely perfect triple loop (off a double lutz combination) and triple flip on its own as his 'A' jump. His short program was of the best ever, the choreography was sensational, his interpretation to selections from The Matrix, earning him three perfect scores of 10.0 for his B mark. Following in 2nd is first time Senior, Andrea Barbieri. The first in the first block of ten to actually land all his items, (including triple lutz & loop combo, and triple flip) which sounds harsh, but unfortunately, tonight it was true. There were many misses and falls, resulting in some MAJOR upsets from many of the big guns of the event, which is one hell of a shame. In looking at the ordinals for the men, you'll note there are some big surprises in the top and lower end of the scale and the long program is going to sort out the men from the boys in more ways than one.
Daniel Arriola, after taking a fall on his double axel, ended up in 3rd with a strong triple loop combination, although two footed on the landings, his performance was fantastic, skating to music from Itzhark Perlman. Brazil's Diego Dores is no stranger to the top ten and he is lying in 5th after a solid skate with some great spins and triple jumps. Another first year Senior skater,
Manuel Magalhaes, Portugal, gave a strong enough skate to finish in 4th, mind you a triple loop in combo is always going to help and a strong double axel. The long is going to be a bloody good event and I'll be sure to update this a little more in the morning... Cheers
Nov 21/03 Dazed & Confused, yet on the podium..
Imagen 003.jpg (26108 bytes)Last night was really something in the pairs, boy did we see some amazing throw jumps but each of the teams. Throw triple loop was of the popular throw jumps, many landed in spectacular form, especially from the Italian's (all top 3), along with fantastic throw triple salchows, double axels and also AMAZING throw QUAD Lutz lifts. And again, the night was not without drama, sadly in the final warm up, Gaia Grandi & Giovanni Dallarda, took a massive fall on a lift and Giovanni actually hit his head and appeared to be slightly unconscious for a moment as he sat in amazement. To my surprise, the event was not held up in anyway and they promptly ushered him off the floor, only to commence immediately with the next pair to skate. More to our amazement, he then competed straight after this. When the team took the floor, he then returned to the marshalling area, appearing not to know what he was doing, and it even looked like his partner was showing him where to go and what to do.. It was really quite an emotional peformance, throughout, it was as if he looked to her for guidance and often, there were items in which you werent sure if either knew they were going to do. Cudos to them both, they skated brilliantly, regardless.. It was truly inspiring to see him continue despite the injury and move forward in such a courageous manner to push them in to a silver medal winning skate. The winners, Marika Zanforlin & Federico Degli Esposti, held strong from their win in the short, however, if it was up to the crowd, the Gold would have gone to Ermeti & Fabbri, they also received a standing ovation for their emotional peformance. Argentina´s Maria Mugica & Flavio Fissolo dropped out of 2nd position in to fourth and Michela Ermeti & Enrico Fabbri, another absolutlely mind blowing team, took the bronze. (pict left)
Unfortunately, and I cant believe it, but somehow I lost track of time and completely MISSED the ladies short program. But I can confirm that the event was wonderful. Tanja Romano, with her award of 10.0 from one judge, really got the crowd behind her and skated floorlessly, a great triple lutz as her toe jump reuquirement cemented her first position. Heather Mulkey (3rd) skated right after Romano and apparently did a single axel instead of double, but the rest of her program was solid enough to put her in 3rd behind Italy's Francesca Ciani. Imagen 042.jpg (24584 bytes) Australia's Kylie Russell and Purdy Rawlison are in 20 & 22, while unfortunately, Lisa Curtis, has also fallen sick with that dreaded bug that hit out team since day 1 and is in 27th. Spain's Laura Sanchez is in 5th, I dont know what happened there, but Im sure in the long, we will see some change as this girl can outjump just about everyone in the event, excluding Romano, lets just hope she holds it together.
Although I am no expert on dance, lasnights OSP's (to be called and changed to Original Dance next year - like ice) were nothing short of amazing. Being in Argentina, the 'Tango' was more than apt and Bornati & Bornati's (right) program was outstanding, although I believe slightly controversial as it appeared Emanuela was 'lifted', however we all LOVED IT! and they promptly moved from 6th in the Compulsories up to 3rd. Fabio Grossi & Michela Pizzi are in first position with some pretty strong competition pushing from behind. USA´s Kevin Kneeland & Tammy Gummow was by far of the most popular, yet Im not sure how they are in the standings. A very strong and powerful performance, full of emotion, received a grandios applause. More soon
Nov 20/03 Pairs & Figure results..
Imagen 001.jpg (19714 bytes)The results, Mens Figures, Pairs & Laides short program have just been added and a full report loaded in the morning.. All events this evening were outstanding. Tanja Romano, Italia, received a perfect score of 10.0 in her short program with Heather Mulkey from USA having to take the floor immediately after. Her efforts put her in 3rd behind Romano... More news soon..  (Pictured left: Jordan Segovia)
Nov 20/03 Argentina, Italy & Germany on top..
Imagen 044.jpg (18976 bytes)Argentina are proving, yet again, to be a force in the top rankings, while Italy still dominates, Germany is showing signs of returning to the form of many years ago when they literally blitzed the podiums. In day 1, Nathalie Heinz took the first Gold in the ladies figures along with Constanze Hoßfeld in 3rd (left). Italy missed the top spot with former champ, Elisa Facciotti, in 5th after a shaky start on the first figure. USA found themselves outside of the top ten for the first time in, I'd have to go out on a limb and say, in history with 12,13 & 14th placements. Germany´s form has also been given new strength with the addition of Leonardo Leinhard (formerly Italian team coach) joining the ranks and working alongside their team. Australia´s Rachel Tonkin, appearing at her first world meet for figures, placed a credible 16th ahead of Australian champion, Karen Clough, who ended up in 19th.
Imagen 043.jpg (23798 bytes)Lastnights crowd proved a little disappointing in comparison to the weekends capacity crowds for the Inline-Show events, however, it did not lessen the impact of the spectacular performances in the Dance & Pairs events. Although the results for the dance will not be available until the OSP is skated, it seemed as though the Italian team, Fabio Grossi & Michela Pizzi, were out in front with scores of 9.3 & 9.4 amongst their totals. USA's Quinn & White, were also up there and there were some very strong skates from Argentina's team, all in the high 8's.
Italian team, Marika Zanforlin & Federico Degli Esposti, took the no.1 position in the short program easily, although there was something special missing without the inclusion of icon's, Patrick Venerucci & Beatrice Palazzi Rossi. The event was strong nonetheless and there were very few mistakes, although the German team did have one unfortunate fall on their lift in the beginning of their skate.
Imagen 033.jpg (20227 bytes)The men's training yesterday was fantastic and my first viewing of Italy's Luca D'Alisera, and still no sign of the triple axel to perfection.. Although Im sure we'll be put out of our misery soon. Josh Rhoads, still a stand out for me (and incredibly consistent this year), is only one of about 10 or 11 doing triple loop or triple loop in combination, proving the standard is just getting stronger & stronger. Jordan Sorgovia & Daniel Arriola are also looking brilliant as with Andrea Barbieri of Italy. It will be an awesome event to say the least.. More news soon... (Pictured left: Daniel Mueller & Frank Albiez)
Nov 20/03 First round results..
The first round of results, Ladies Figures & Pairs short program have just been added. The mens event is currently running as we speak and I will add the results later today. More news coming on within the hour and images...

Nov 18/03 Fine form in Senior
The Seniors appear to be in very fine form. I havent had a chance to see alot of the training yet, but from what I have seen, there is some bloody fine skating. Tanja Romano, Italy, has been doing outstanding TRIPLE LUTZ & FLIP combintations AND TRIPLE LOOP jumps perfectly rotated and clean roll outs, amazing. Laura Sanchez, Spain, also doing all four big jumps and also looking to be a hot favourite and strong competition for 2002 Champ, Heather Mulkey, USA. She also appears to be in great shape, and a hot competition it will be. The Australian girls all seem to handling the floor well and gearing up for a strong skate.
In the Men's, I havent seen Italy yet, but my stand out is Joshua Rhoads, USA. Not only is he skating brilliantly, he is looking mighty fine, a true specimen of an elite athlete. He is completely tanked up and fitter than ever, he jumping form is to perfection, including some great triple axel attempts. I'm sure, the way Argetine girls are, he will be of one of the big hits with them and he'll be posing for pics for hours on end. The French have also really improved and Argentina's top two are looking fantastic. Cant wait to bring you more info on it all... Cheers.
Nov 18/03 Senior full competitor listing now online..
The complete competitor listing for all events in Senior are now online. Please note that they are listed in Short Program skating order, unlike the country order listing for all the Junior listings.

Nov 17/03 Moving on to Senior..
It's now time to make way for the Senior championships, with it guaranteeing some absolutely spectacular performances and events. The Italian team (left) all seem to be in fine spirit, including the very popular, Luca D'Alisera, set to take battle with Argentina's Daniel Ariolla, with a capacity crowd backed support, no doubt.  All listings and events will be added in the next days. Also a new updates page will replace this one, although you will still be able to access it. It's time to move on now and I hope you are enjoying the coverage I have hoped to bring you over the years but haven't been able to due to internet access problems.. This year its been great and I'm really happy to be able to assist, thankyou for all your emails.. MORE SOON!
