Mens and ladies a crowd pleaser.. |
|
Last night was
absolutely amazing and the crowd certainly enjoyed the skating at
its best! I think we witnessed possibly the best men's short program
competition in years! There were many clean programs skated and many
also contribute that to the introduction of the listed elements in a
specific order, which is a huge boost for the performance value.
Roberto Riva, Andrea Barbieri, Daniel Arriolla, Pier Luca Tocco,
Carles Gazzet and Marcel Sturmer were the clear standouts all
performing faultless programs.. The top six is very close and the
long program is on as I type this note. The ladies was equally
amazing - Tanja Romano cemented her status and the BEST
FEMALE ATHLETE of all time winning FIVE singles titles (only
equalled by Scott Cohen). Not only that, Tanja received five scores
of 10.0 for her Bmark and her program to 'Carmen'. Awesome!!! All
results are now online for the men's short, ladies combined and

4/07 Opening
night proves great highlight.. |
|
Last night we had a
capacity crowd for the opening, and for a venue without air
conditioning the temperature was at boiling point, so much so that
one young girl holding the Japanese flag fainted and fell to the
floor. She was only a few feet from me so I quickly helped her out
thinking she had falling asleep!! Aside from all the formalities the
skating was great.. Taipei scored their first MEDAL ever with a
silver in the Men's inline from Huang, Chin-Wei. Kristen
Slade skated a perfect long and for the last time she took the floor
and did Australia proud, ending her career with a silver medal to
Italy's Sivlvia Marangoni. |

The inline events
have just finished and the show groups (large) are just starting! A
great performance from Australia's Kristen Slade and Brazil's
Gustavo Melo has them both holding first after the short
program. Australia's Andrew Bassi skated his butt off and is
holding a great 5th position and a highlight was Tapei's Huang
Chin-Wei who sprung into 2nd in the mens inline after an amazing
short, which I believe you are all now enjoying via the stream which
is great news! All results for inline and
show groups now

STREAMING STARTS TONIGHT.. |

There have been
major hiccups with the streaming due to FIRS only committing to
stream the SENIOR event, so in the last moments Skate Australia has
managed to set up a viewing that commences tonight for the GROUPS
and will then transfer to the FIRS site following the Inline events
when Senior starts.. For all viewing links via MAC and PC visit the

WINS first Junior Medal!! |
|
Not since our first
junior championships in 1995 has Australia managed a medal in the
competition, even though we came very close with our former top
Juniors Lisa Gobby and Kristen Slade who achieved top
4 and top 5 results over many years in the Ladies singles and also
combined, until last when Stephanie Campbell scored a BRONZE
in the combined event! Congrats Steph. Italy's Cristina Trani
was the biggest mover of the week after moving from 11th in
the short program to THIRD in the long program! WOW!! thats

Marco Santucci has
won the gold. Results in full now online including the combined
event. Newcomer, Andrea Poli, has won both figures and combined and
will return home to Italy as Gabriele Quirini's new champion student
as Luca D'Alisera retires. |

not out yet, but the Italian Marco Santucci is in the lead,
following by fellow Italian Andrea Poli.. Great skates also from

I'm having all sorts
of problems with access so please forgive me with the lateness of
results but this will now be fine tuned and you will get them alot
quicker. The SOLO DANCE first round placings have just gone up and
the PAIRS. I will now do the figures for men's and ladies. Keep

I've just printed
out 20 pages of messages and they will be traveling to the
Gold Coast with me today and when I arrive at the championships I'll
be putting them up on the wall.. THANKS to everyone who has been
posting! Sorry if there have been any hiccups, but already there is
a lot of traffic on the server and it may prevent some issues from

Skaters in the
Junior events have started arriving on the Gold Coast and todays
training session 'un-officially' set off proceedings in spectacular
fashion with some amazing skating from Italy, Argentina, Australia
and the USA on the official floor at Cararra Stadium. Stay tuned for
